my captain is gone
he held me one last time and kissed me
or, as captains do
made me need to kiss him
or swoon right there
it was a moment he’d asked me
to wait for
and i had promised
that i would
he danced for me
as captains do
and displayed his feathers
so that i lost my breath
and felt like maybe i’d just
die now
or hyperventilate
between
gusts of love
he told me he didn’t want to go
as captains do
and when their ships are
leaving port
their favorite girls should whisper
i know...
yet go: the world needs your wonderful!
far away from our island
and so i did
i told him i’d wait
as lovers do
and it will be like crumbles of stardust in my fist
and sprinkles of magic
and time will fold and loop
upon itself
and our last will always be our first
so that it will be no time
ever at all
i’ll go on
as lovers do
and others will try while i’m
imagining his wise hands on my sparkly skin
and that need our bodies seem to have
to stand this close
in the teardrop shape
of past
and what one day we will become
my blue might never see your golden eyes again
my captain
my captain
but we’ll smile for each other
somewhere
somewhere
i promise
in time
